Poultry diseases

Diseases of poultry cover basic and applied aspects of diseases of relevance for industrial as well as scavenging production in developed and developing countries with special emphasis on:
- Characterization, classification, identification and tracing of potential pathogens
- Basic understanding of host-parasite interactions during infection
- Fundamental understanding of the population kinetics and genetics of potential pathogens in space and time in large populations
- Understanding of the impact of treatment and vaccination on selection/stability of potential pathogens in large populations
- Potential extra-animal ecological niches and their impact on genetic diversity of host-associated potential pathogens
- Development of disease models of comparative interest for humans and endangered animal species
Present research includes projects within the areas mentioned above, organisms dealt with including taxa of Pasteurellaceae, Eschericia coli, Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale, and taxa of Riemerella, Enterococcus and Streptococcus in addition to selected parasites.
